Warning Siren May be Installed Next Week
( Air Date: 5/6/2005 )
With the VX neutralization underway in Vermillion County at the Newport Chemical Depot, should residents in nearby Montezuma be worried about a missing warning siren in their town?.

The siren was blown down during a storm last summer. The siren still hasn`t been replaced and one homeowner is asking what emergency management is planning to do about it.

Emergency officials say a siren was ordered and they`ve been waiting for it to arrive. Darla Eslinger, director of Parke County Emergency Management, said "Because of the work situation being what it is, the siren companies have been flooded with orders for sirens from different counties, different states. They`ve been sending them to Iraq and other foreign countries."

Eslinger expects the siren to arrive next week and be installed by Thursday or Friday in Montezuma.

Meanwhile, she`s confident the other sirens in the area, and TV and radio station will be enough to warn residents in the event of an emergency.
