Weapons Disposal Debate Continues

The fate of the chemical weapons stockpile at the Blue Grass Army Depot remains in limbo as a debate is revving up over whether to move the weapons -- or neutralize them in Kentucky.

The deadly weapons are stored in earth-covered bunkers at the depot near Richmond.

The Pentagon agreed to build a new plant to neutralize the weapons -- but those plans have been put on hold so the Army can study alternatives, including moving them out of state.

But Madison County Judge-Executive Kent Clark said he doubts the weapons are going anywhere -- because elected officials would never allow it.

And on the floor of the U.S. Senate last week, Mitch McConnell vowed that the weapons will not be moved because of the risks involved.
