A US congressman is leveling new accusations against the US Army over destruction of VX nerve agent stored in Indiana.
I-Team 8 has obtained the letter sent by New Jersey Congressman Rob Andrews to Colonel Jesse Barber, who is the Army official overseeing the destruction of the VX.
Congressman Andrews writes of his "disappointment at the Army’s refusal to share results of ongoing lab tests on VX hydrolosate" or waste at Newport. He says "affected communities deserve to have access to the information.”
He goes on further, saying, "If all test results are not released, I am concerned that there could later be an effort to massage negative test results in order to hide serious deficiencies.”
Andrews wants the Army to release all test results along the way and not just at the end.
At issue is the VX wastewater, which the army wants to dispose of in New Jersey. In May, our I-Team 8 investigation "Project Security" showed concerns by scientists who say there still could be VX in the wastewater. One drop of VX can kill.
Newport Chemical Depot officials say they will release the results at
the end of the testing. However, Congressman Andrews says the Army needs
to be open and release them along the way.
