I-Team 8 is exposing concerns about the security of our food supply and the safety of the army's plan to destroy a deadly chemical weapon in Indiana. We explore the risks of living in a post 9/11 world in our ongoing series "Project Security." Here’s an overview of what you'll see this week.

The people of Indiana are caught in the middle of a debate about the safety of the Army's plans to destroy the world's most dangerous chemical weapon, VX. The pilot program at Newport is scheduled to start within days. It's what some are calling a scientific experiment in Indiana's own backyard.

“Everything I've seen of this process says the people in charge of getting rid of these weapons have always been unprepared,” said Rep. Robert Andrews (D-New Jersey).

But the Army says it is prepared, and it expects surprises. “It's what you expect with start-up of a facility. The fact that this is a first-of-its-kind facility, maybe there might be a few more than normal,” said Jeff Brubaker, Newport project manager.

I-Team 8 will show you what happens when there is a surprise - at an elementary school just five miles from Newport.

On Friday, I-Team 8’s Rick Dawson looks at the security of the food supply.

“If they want to hit us where it hurts, that's where they're gonna hit us,” said Tim Heller, farmer.

When outgoing Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson wondered out loud why terrorists hadn't already attacked the food supply, it got a lot of people in government thinking. Health departments and emergency planners have new strategies.

“I think we are starting to think about the unthinkable,” said Michael Hurst, Indiana Department of Health.

You'll see examples of how wide-scale poisonings have already happened in America and why some worry more about livestock than crops.

“It would be very easy to harm that part of our economy and the harm to our economy could be devastating,” said Clifford Ong, Director of Homeland Security for the Indiana Counter-Terrorism and Security Council (C-TASC).

I-Team 8's ongoing investigation Project Security begins Thursday at 6:00 pm. Karen Hensel leads off with a report on the impending destruction of VX and why Hoosiers are caught in the middle of a debate about the safety of the process.
