EDGEWOOD, Md. -- Authorities at Aberdeen Proving
Ground say no one was hurt when two workers spilled a cleaning solution containing
traces of mustard agent.
The spill occurred Wednesday morning while the workers were cleaning a work
station in the chemical-agent destruction plant.
Base spokesman Jeff Linblad says the solution spilled on the workers' protective
suits. The workers were examined by the medical staff at the base, but showed
no ill effects.
Destruction of the 1,600-ton mustard agent stockpile at the base began last
spring. Since then, an estimated 110 tons of the material has been destroyed.
