Tooele Army Depot officials
confirmed Wednesday that the FBI is currently investigating several civilian
employees, and that a search for evidence at the depot was conducted earlier
that day.
According to a depot press
release, for “the past several months, some employees of the Tooele Army
Depot (TEAD) have been under investigation by Federal Investigation Services.”
Depot officials said the
investigation was centered around “personnel and property at the (depot)”.
Kathy Anderson, a Tooele
Army Depot spokeswoman, said officials at the Army facility aren’t aware
of which individuals are being investigated or how many employees were part
of the FBI probe. She confirmed that the investigation’s subjects were Department
of the Army civilian employees at the depot.
A Salt Lake media outlet
reported Wednesday night that the FBI had issued search warrants at the depot
and to search two depot employees’ homes, including one in Cottonwood Heights.
Bob Wright, an FBI spokesman
at the agency’s Salt Lake office, said the investigation is a collaboration
of efforts between the FBI, IRS, Army Criminal Investigation Division and
other federal agencies.
He emphasized that, as
of yet, no charges or arrests against anyone had been made and that the investigation
was ongoing.
