Power interrupted at Newport Depot Power was interrupted Friday at the Newport Chemical Depot in Vermillion County when a tree fell on a transmission line about a mile north of U.S. 36, depot and Duke Energy officials said.During the four-hour outage, emergency generators provided power for the depot's headquarters and the facility where the deadly nerve agent VX is destroyed, said Army spokeswoman Terry Arthur. There was no danger to the public, depot commander Lt. Col. Scott Kimmell said in a news release. At the time of the outage, the VX destruction process was not under way, the release stated. Power was restored at about 6:20 p.m., Arthur said. |
