Army picks new date for VX meeting
Tribune-Star staff report
March 18, 2004
The Army has rescheduled a public meeting to discuss plans for safely disposing of VX hydrolysate, the byproduct of VX neutralization.
The meeting is now scheduled for 6 p.m. March 31 in the cafeteria of South Vermillion High School in Clinton.
"We rescheduled the public meeting from the original March 25th date to allow a maximum of public participation by community members who would otherwise be unable to participate because of the spring break schedule," said Jeff Brubaker, Army site project manager for the Chemical Agent Destruction Facility at the Newport Chemical Depot.
Representatives of the Army and DuPont Secure Environmental Treatment facility will be on hand to discuss plans for safely and effectively treating the VX neutralization byproduct, which the Army calls a "caustic waste water."
The public comment period ends midnight April 19 on the Draft Revised Finding of No Significant Impact to the 2002 Environmental Assessment for Accelerated Neutralization of the Chemical Agent and Off-Site Shipment of Liquid Process Effluents at the Newport Chemical Agent Disposal Facility.
