SALT LAKE CITY - The Deseret Chemical Depot shut down operations over the weekend for the third time since it resumed destroying chemical weapons March 28.

Depot officials say such closures are expected while the incinerator is adjusted to burn a weapons containing the nerve agent VX.

The Deseret Chemical Depot, Tooele Chemical Agent Disposal Facility is located 45 miles southwest of Salt Lake City. In September, 100 members of the Redding-based Alpha Company of the California Army National Guard's 132nd Engineer Battalion were placed on active duty and sent to the U.S. Army depot near Tooele.

On Saturday, alarms sounded at the depot inside an observation corridor, officials said.
