Letters to the Editor
Editorial was off base
Dear Editor,
Sunday's "Our Opinion" column titled "Key Disposal Players Must Commit" caused my blood pressure to rise. Yes, the nerve gas destruction issue is a complex one, but adding another option to increase the level of security to this community is a blessing, not a hindrance. The comments of your editorial board, in my humble opinion, showed a lack of understanding and knowledge of this issue.
Contrary to your opinion that Sept. 11 is being used 'in a political chess game", the world IS different now. Why wouldn't we want something such as this disassembly method to reduce the risk of chemical release until the final disposal method is chosen and implemented?
As for your remarks about Craig Williams and those of us who oppose incineration, I don't believe anyone on your editorial board has been around Richmond and this issue long enough to say "because if it weren't for them, the deadly nerve and blister agent would be long gone." As the old saying goes, do not speak about that which you do not know".
