KENTUCKY ENVIRONMENTAL FOUNDATION TO RECEIVE AWARD
Nationally Syndicated Radio Show to Honor KEF's Victory Over Incineration of Chemical Weapons in Kentucky

The Berea-based Kentucky Environmental Foundation (KEF) will be honored at Louisville's Palace Theater tomorrow (Friday) night during the taping of "etown," a National Radio Variety Show.

KEF will be presented the "e-chievement" award which is a listener-nominated honor given to "individuals and organizations who are working hard to make a difference in their communities and beyond" according to Helen Forster, the show's co-host and executive producer.

The award will recognize KEF's long-term fight against the Army's plans to incinerate the chemical weapons stored at the Blue Grass Army Depot in Madison County, KY, and their recent victory wherein the Army made a final decision to abandon incineration for a safer and more environmentally protective neutralization process.

According to an April 16, 2003 press release, "Founded in 1991, etown, is a not for profit, nationally syndicated radio show heard 52 weeks a year on over 150 stations across the U.S. Its mission is to create a strong community aware of social and environmental issues through music and conversation. Every 'etown' is taped in front of a live audience, and features performances from many of today's top musical artists as well as thought-provoking interviews and the presentation of the 'e-chievement' award recognizing people who have made a difference in their community or environment"

KEF Director, Craig Williams, who will receive the award said, "It is a privilege to have our organization recognized this way - and I'm honored to represent not only KEF, but all the people in Kentucky who supported our efforts over the past 19 years. The recent decision not to burn these weapons here is a testimonial to what individuals and communities can accomplish when everyone works together. "

Musical guests at Friday night's taping will include: Kentucky-born Joan Osborne, whose song "One of Us" was the number one on the U.S. singles chart for two weeks in 1995; the North Mississippi All Stars; My Morning Jacket; and Jason Mraz. The show begins at 8:00 P.M. The Palace Theater is located at 629 South 4th St. In Louisville.
(Check local listings for when the show will be aired in your area.)
