Chem depot construction funding freed

By JOHN NORTON
THE PUEBLO CHIEFTAIN

The U.S. Senate on Tuesday approved 98-0 a defense authorization bill that corrects language holding up $51 million in military construction spending at the Pueblo Chemical Depot.

The amendment was introduced by Colorado senators, Democrat Ken Salazar and Republican Wayne Allard along with senators from Kentucky and other states.

It was part of a $472.2 billion bill that now goes to a conference committee.

In addition to the amendment to free Pueblo Chemical Depot funding, Salazar introduced or joined in the addition of five other amendments covering future funding of a remote gun turret for Humvees, mental health screenings for military personnel, support for Paralympics, training for spouses who have to relocate and allowing the Department of Energy to purchase mineral rights for Rocky Flats.
