Disassembly plant meets state criteria

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment plans to recommend no further action for a former ammunition disassembly plant at the Pueblo Chemical Depot.

The new permit says that the soil and groundwater at the unit now meets site-specific reuse criteria.

The permit is not related to the chemical weapons stockpile.

The department has a draft of its modified permit available for the public to view at three locations in the area, at the Boone Town Hall, Robert Hoag Rawlings Public Library and Avondale Elementary School.

Copies also are available from Kathryn Cain, chief of the chemical depot's environmental office.

The draft will be available until Sept. 21. Anyone wanting a public hearing on the modification will have to contact the state health department during that period.
