Non-Stockpile Chemical Weapons Citizens Coalition

Our Mission

The Non-Stockpile Chemical Weapons Citizens Coalition (hereafter, Coalition) is a
grassroots coalition of people living in communities directly affected by the existence of, or
activities around, non-stockpile chemical weapons, and of national and international
organizations concerned with non-stockpile chemical weapons and other military/industrial
toxics issues.

We recognize the connectedness of the earth and all living things. What affects one person,
one community, affects us all. The non-stockpile issue is no different, and we treat it as a
global issue with far-reaching implications for the environment and public health.

The mission of the Coalition is to foster environmental justice around all non-stockpile
chemical weapons activities, by:

  1. encouraging the full disclosure of information;
  2. promoting the fair and equitable decision-making processes of affected community members at the local, state and national levels;
  3. advocating the use of technologies and other methods for non-stockpile chemical material and weapons retrieval, treatment and destruction which protect the environment and public health to the highest degree possible; and
  4. developing and disseminating educational and advocy tools and resources for community members and grassroots organizations, which will help move forward our mission.

Structure

The Kentucky Environmental Foundation (KEF) is the elected lead organization of the
Coalition. KEF provides staff functions of the Coalition, with responsibilities including
maintaining group communication, resource development and management, and
implementation of Coalition strategies.

Decisions within the Coalition are made through consensus. A steering committee, made
up Coalition members with diversity in terms of gender, race and ethnicity and regional
representation. Some of the roles of the steering committee are to develop strategic plans
for consideration of the Coalition, and to assist staff with outreach and communication.

The Coalition also utilizes the skills of technical and legal consultants.

Who are we, really?
