DOVER -- Military explosives experts took custody of a piece of vintage ordnance found in a load of clams Friday, authorities said.

Members of 436th Civil Engineer Squadron's explosive ordnance disposal unit at Dover Air Force Base were called to the Seawatch International plant in Milford after the shell was found by a metal detector recently installed at the seafood-processing plant in response to previous discoveries of unexploded ordnance.

Tech. Sgt. Michael Duncan of the 436th said the ordnance found Friday was a single sealed unexploded round, suspected to be a World War I munition.

Experts from Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland were dispatched to identify the munition before disposal.
