LINCOLN, Ala. -- More East Alabama residents are
expected to line up Sunday to protect themselves in the event of a chemical
accident at the U.S. Army's chemical weapons incinerator in Anniston, NBC13
reported.Talladega County Emergency Management Agency officials issued equipment
Saturday to residents living near the chemical stockpile.The kits are free
and include duct tape, plastic, safety scissors, a personal air room cleaner,
a towel, information sheets and a video.
Officials said residents should take the following steps in case of a chemical
release:
- Go to a room with few windows and no outside doors.
- Use the tape to cover windows and doors with plastic sheeting.
- Cover all of the vents, including gaps and cracks that could let vapors
into the room.
- Follow instructions on television or the radio when the all-clear is
issued.
Authorities said the kits can be used for any hazardous materials incident.Officials
still have thousands of kits, and will be handing them out at Lincoln High
School on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
