BRUSSELS, Dec 5 (KUNA) -- As a member of the
Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the State
of Kuwait had adhered to the prohibition of chemical weapons with
determination, said Tuesday a Kuwaiti official.
The head of the Kuwaiti delegation to the 11th session of the OPCW,
Assistant Undersecretary at the Defense Ministry Mohammed Bozubar,
pointed out in a speech that Kuwait had developed a national authority
to follow-up and secure communication with the OPCW.
The three-day conference's session opened today at the World Forum
Convention Centre (WFCC) in the Hague, the Netherlands.
He stressed in the conference Kuwait's adherence to its obligations in
this regard and its support for the organization to clean the world
from weapons of mass destruction.
In cooperation with OPCS, he added, the State of Kuwait recently
completed a draft law related to prohibition of chemical weapons and it
was submitted to the country's legislative authority for endorsement.
In a phone call with Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Bozubar said, Kuwait's
participation in the conference mainly aimed at affirming its
determination toward multilateral action. He also stressed the
importance of other states' views concerning chemical weapons
prohibition.
He noted that the OCPW would celebrate next year its 10th anniversary
and that Kuwait would partake in this celebration. (end)
