Depot Suspends Chemical Weapons Disposal for Maintenance
(Stockton-AP) -- Chemical weapons disposal is at a halt for now at a facility
in Stockton.
The Tooele Chemical Agent Disposal Facility suspended their chemical weapons
destruction operations so the facility can make routine repairs.
Workers will fix a leaking liner in a Spent Decon System or S-D-S.
That's a tank that temporarily houses liquids generated during decontamination
operations inside the plant.
Workers will also take other preventive and corrective measures to make sure
their processing operations during the Nerve Agent Destruction Campaign is
reliable.
The work is expected to take about a month.
Last month workers sealed up seven leaking mustard-agent munitions at the
facility, but there was no danger to the surrounding community.
