SARATOV, August 20 (Itar-Tass) - Operations to detoxify lewisite will resume at a plant for destruction of chemical weapons in a Volga region. A spokesman at the information and analysis centre of the plant, which is located in Gorny settlement, told Itar-Tass on Friday that the plant was stopped for service and maintenance operations on July 15. Specialists from Moscow, Balakovo, Engels and Tver region did the preventive work. A special commission has issued permission for the resumption of the plant’s operations. A total of 74 tonnes of lewisite have been destroyed since a line for the reprocessing of this war gas began to operate.
