KAMBARKA, Udmurtia, March 1 (Itar-Tass)
-- Russia’s second chemical weapons elimination facility has gone operational
in Kambarka, Udmurtia.
It will help Russia
comply with its liabilities to the world community, Russian presidential
adviser Alexander Buritin said.
“The creation of a second such facility
lays the solid basis for the successful implementation of the second phase
of chemical weapons elimination,” Buritin said. A total of seven such facilities
are to be created.
During the second phase of the program
3,200 tonnes of lewisite will be eliminated in Kambarka. All lewisite in
stock there will be destroyed by the end of 2008.
“This fully agrees with the federal
chemical weapons elimination program and Russia’s liabilities under the
Convention,” Burutin said, adding that Russia appreciated the contribution
of its European partners.
