A memorial service was held at Imam Ali (AS) Mosque in New York for war veteran Mehdi Vahidi Asl who died at Sassan hospital in Tehran for suffering from wounds he had received from Iraqi chemical attacks in the war fronts.
Vahidi Asl, a diplomat by profession, had served at Iranian mission in New York before being admitted to hospital in Tehran for deterioration of his health condition.
IRNA reporter in New York said that the former diplomat was suffering from the mustard gas wounds for 20 years.
In their statements to the memorial service of martyr Vahidi Asl, Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations Mohammad Javad Zarif and Friday prayers leader of the Mosque Hojjatoleslam Eslami honored his memory and services.
"Those so-called campaigners against weapons of mass destruction (WMD) should bring to justice the Western suppliers of chemical weapons to Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein for using them against Iranian soldiers during Iraqi imposed war on Iran in 1980s," Zarif said.
Iranian mission to the United Nations opened a memorial book for signature of the New York-based foreign diplomats on Monday.
