MUSTARD GAS LEAK RESEALS ITSELF
A mustard chemical leak at the Blue Grass Army Depot has stopped because
the container resealed itself, authorities said in a release yesterday. Pressure probably built up in the munition stored at the depot and a small
puff of mustard vapor escaped. Once the pressure was relieved, the vapor escape
stopped and the leak was no longer detectable, officials said. There was no danger to the community during the incident. "This has been
a very active year for leaking munitions," said Gary Stanfield, chief of field
operations, referring to eight recorded leaks.
