WDC announces management changes at UMCDF
HERMISTON - Washington Demilitarization Company, a subsidiary
of Washington
Group International, Inc., announced Friday several key management
appointments as its Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility
(UMCDF) moves
from construction to preparation for operational readiness testing
and
eventual weapons material disposal operations.
Loren D. Sharp, who led the plant through its construction
phase, has been
assigned to Washington Group's Defense Business Unit as a manager
in its
strategic and new business development activities. The Defense
Business Unit
serves the U.S. Departments of Defense and State and related agencies
in
markets related to homeland security, military infrastructure
reconfiguration and
global threat reduction, which includes chemical weapons demilitarization.
"Loren's extensive experience in both the chemical and
nuclear industries
will provide a valuable operational perspective to our future
business
development efforts," said Fred Hissong, Jr., president of
Washington
Demiliarization Company.
Ronald W. Garner, a manager with more than 30 years experience
in complex
facility startup and operation, has been named project general
manager for
the Umatilla facility. A 24-year veteran of various Washington
Group
businesses, Garner brings an extensive background in managing
hazardous
operations and executing operational readiness review programs
for
technically sophisticated facilities.
"With the successful completion of construction, Ron's
experience will be
invaluable as the project moves forward into full systems integration,
operator training and demonstration testing, including the formal
trial
burns," said Hissong.
"The Umatilla workforce reflects a world-class mix of
talent drawn from
every segment of the company, the surrounding communities and
related
industries," he added.
