Comments sought on start of incineration at Army Depot
HERMISTON — Residents
have until 5 p.m. June 7 to submit comments on the start of incineration of
chemical agent munitions at the Umatilla Chemical Depot.
A public hearing also will be held May 20 in Hermiston for
residents to provide comments to the Environmental Quality Commission, the
governing body of the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.
After completion of the public comment period, the DEQ will
review and consider all comments and prepare a report for the EQC with a
recommendation on whether or not DEQ believes the EQC should approve the
start up of chemical agent operations.
The EQC must give its approval before incineration can start
in July.
The DEQ will accept oral and written comments by mail, fax
and e-mail at any time during the comment period. |
