| Depot detects vapors Officials find trace amount of Sarin, no danger to public By the East Oregonian HERMISTON — A trace amount of GB sarin chemical agent vapors were detected at the Umatilla Chemical Depot Saturday during routine monitoring. The vapors were detected inside a chemical storage structure which holds 155 mm projectiles. The building has a passive filter system which prevents the vapor from escaping outside the structure. Although the detection readings are so low they are deemed to be harmless to the public or environment, depot officials notify the public when such incidents occur. |
