Umatilla Chemical Depot employee charged with workplace assault

UMATILLA - A man who was laid off from his job at the Umatilla Chemical Depot has been charged with assault after allegedly striking his boss last week, according to Depot officials.

William Joe Allen, 53, was arrested by Oregon State Police Thursday after he allegedly hit James A. Johnson, 64.

Both men were employed by the Washington Demilitarization Company, the firm hired by the Army to destroy the chemical weapons stored at the Depot.

Johnson was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center, where he was treated for injuries to his head and face. He returned to work Friday.

According to police, Allen was angry over being laid off from his job.
