Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, R-Colo., announced Tuesday that the U.S. Army's Pueblo Chemical Depot will receive $50 million in federal funds for chemical-weapons cleanup in fiscal year 2005 defense appropriations.
The Senate is expected to pass the measure today, according to a statement from Campbell's office.
"I worked very hard throughout the appropriations process to ensure Pueblo received this funding," Campbell said. "Given the budget constraints this country is experiencing, $50 million is a huge victory for Colorado.
"The money will allow Pueblo Chemical Depot to meet the program objective of destruction of all chemical weapons at the facilities by 2012," Campbell said.
