Sen. Wayne Allard, R-Colo., plans to introduce legislation today to stop the Department of Defense from spending $150,000 on a study to determine whether mustard-gas munitions should be moved from the Pueblo Chemical Depot.
Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo., is co-sponsoring the legislation.
At a Jan. 18 meeting with two top Pentagon officials, the senators were assured the weapons would not be transported. A memo confirming that conversation - expected Friday - is now five days overdue.
On Jan. 19, the Defense Department announced that it would conduct a three-month study on whether to transport the weapons. Three other studies over the last two decades have concluded that moving the weapons would be impractical.
