Mustard-agent leak is sealed at depot

STOCKTON, Tooele County  — Workers at the Deseret Chemical Depot sealed three military projectiles leaking mustard-agent vapor, the depot reported Tuesday.

The vapor from the leaking artillery projectiles was detected during monitoring operations in a storage igloo.

It was the third such leak reported this month.

Depot workers in protective clothing put the munitions in larger airtight containers for continued storage, according to a statement from the depot.

The igloo is covered by earth and the air inside is filtered. No vapor escaped and there was no danger to the surrounding community, the release said.
