Agent leak not threat, depot says
STOCKTON, Tooele County — HD mustard agent was detected Monday in the stockpile
area of Deseret Chemical Depot, but the area was decontaminated and there
was never any danger to surrounding communities, according to a depot press
release.
The agent vapor was detected inside a chemical munitions storage igloo during
routine monitoring operations. Air filtration equipment was installed and
workers in protective clothing found a leaking 155 mm projectile.
Approximately three cups of mustard agent had leaked onto the concrete floor.
The projectile was placed in an airtight overpack container for continued
storage and the igloo was decontaminated.
