Tooele depot back at work after leak
Deseret Chemical Depot in Tooele County resumed chemical disposal
operations Thursday after shutting down for three days because
of VX agent vapor migration.
Improperly installed check valves allowed the vapor into an observation
hall on Saturday. There was no danger to the workforce, surrounding
community or environment at any time, according to the Tooele
Chemical Agent Disposal Facility. EG&G Defense Materials Inc.
reviewed the entire plant to ensure similar problems did not exist
elsewhere.
As of April 27, the facility has destroyed 44.5 percent of its
stockpile of chemical agent.
