DAYTON | The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission on Wednesday night joined a growing list of government bodies opposing the plan to treat the by-product of VX nerve agent at Perma-Fix of Dayton Inc., a wastewater treatment plant in Jefferson Twp.

The planning organization unanimously passed a resolution calling for Perma-Fix and the Army not to follow through with the disposal plan involving the agent, hydrolysate.

The Army had planned neutralize the hydrolysate at its storage depot in Newport, Ind., and ship the corrosive hazardous waste to Perma-Fix for final treatment before being discharged to Montgomery County's sanitary sewage system.

Thirteen governments or school boards, including the city of Dayton and Montgomery County, have announced opposition to the plan.
