Incineration of the chemical agents began in September 2004. The U.S. Army owns the facility, which is operated by the Washington Demilitarization Company. DEQ issued two separate penalties of $1,200 each to the Washington Demilitarization Co. for violations of hazardous waste management regulations at the disposal facility. The company was cited for not properly labeling all containers of hazardous waste generated at the facility and failure to properly date some of those containers. The violations were noted during an inspection earlier this year. The Washington Demilitarization Co. has 20 days to request a contested case hearing before an administrative law judge regarding these violations. The civil penalties are due and payable 10 days after the order becomes final. |
