For just shy of four years I have attended seemingly countless meetings with Environmental Protection Agency, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, etc. What I have learned from all this is that one must do one’s own homework. Especially when it comes to known health effects, etc.
For instance, examining the government’s own 600-page "toxicological profile for PCBs." Anyone who reads this profile would be more than surprised at how much is known already. This is hard data, not junk science.
I am certainly not suggesting the community doesn’t need to be placed under a microscope and looked at ever so closely.
What I am suggesting is that while a complete study would benefit the world community, what is being so conveniently overlooked is the interactions of all the other chemicals that were produced along with PCBs.
I am deeply torn by uneasy feelings when it comes to the underlying motives of our EPA and their relationship to Monsanto/Solutia etc.
How can any scientific study be exact when there are so many other toxins in the mix? PCBs are only the tip of the iceberg.
With all these chefs stirring the pot I can only warn the community to beware of a "Dog and Pony Show" with Hollywood lights and little action.
