Workers at the Aberdeen Chemical Agent Disposal Facility in Maryland were evacuated from a building Friday after an air monitor detected low levels of mustard agent.
Three workers were rinsing ton containers with hot water when the alarm at the drain station sounded. The workers were checked and cleared by the medical clinic.
No chemical agent escaped the building. Officials are investigating the cause of the alarm.
The Aberdeen facility is using a liquid process called neutralization to destroy its chemical weapons stockpile, which consists of mustard agent stored in steel containers.
