A strong safety record

In reading the June 4 story by Rob Jordan (“Contractor Gives Itself Safety Award”), I was disturbed by the tenor of the article. It is quite common in industry for corporate headquarters to give safety awards to departments or projects that merit it. The head of the company called the safety record “outstanding” and it truly is outstanding.

Although I have no relationship or business with the incinerator or relatives working there I have been interested in its workings in the five years I have lived in Anniston.

So I did some checking and in their 300 days of operations they have successfully and safely burned 33,680 rockets containing agent GB totaling 330,918 pounds of agent or 78 percent of the GB filled rockets. And no one has been harmed! That is outstanding safe effective practice!

I know some of the incinerator workers through social contacts or church and my hat is off to them!

It is a shame that a paid agitator, Craig Williams from Kentucky, makes rampant allegations and is never satisfied with any information he receives. He “sees” a plot in everything. Of course his livelihood depends on his staying in the news.

It is too bad that more citizens did not avail themselves of the free tours of the incinerator because if they had they would realize that it is a well-planned and constructed facility that is operating safely.
