Incineration
Recently, I read a letter about the start-up of the Chemical Weapons Incinerator at the Anniston Army Depot. I think the writer entirely misses the point.
The writer has chosen to nit-pick about the Calhoun County
Mayor's Council supporting the immediate destruction of the chemical
agents at the Depot. This writer goes on about the fact that not
all of the schools have been overpressurized. He contends that
children would be in greater danger if destruction of the weapons
is done on the weekends until the schools are overpressurized.
What he isn't telling us is that other buildings, such as some
hospitals and community centers are already overpressurized.
This writer has written in before opposing the incinerator. And
he has even called my home to complain to me because I wrote a
piece in favor of destroying these weapons. Many of us choose
to live here because this is our home. And I, for one, will not
let these weapons run me out of my home.
We don't ignore these weapons. We know what the dangers are. We just don't allow it to intrude upon our lives to the point that it is all that we think about. I, for one, have a life.
