Federal environmental health experts will hold a public information session in Anniston Monday to discuss two recent reports on lead and PCBs in the Anniston area.

The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry will meet one-on-one with residents from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Anniston Meeting Center. No appointment is necessary.

Representatives from ATSDR will discuss the agency's health consultations on PCBs in the air around the Solutia plant, and blood lead levels in the Anniston area.

The PCBs consultation concluded that, while the air levels around the plant were high, there was not enough information to know whether residents were being exposed.

The lead consultation said that average blood lead levels in Anniston-area children appeared to be below state and national averages, and recommended more testing.

ATSDR is also extending the public comment period on the two reports from March 21 until May 12.
