For 25 years, he was the voice of local news on WDNG-AM.
Now David Ford is the voice of emergency preparedness in Calhoun County.
"I'm very excited," the veteran broadcaster said Monday. "It's extremely challenging and will be different for me. But I hope to continue serving the community, just in a different capacity."
Ford, 51, was appointed as public information/ exercise officer for the Calhoun County Emergency Management Agency Friday. Now he will field media inquiries and coordinate public information campaigns aimed at preparing residents for natural disasters and incidents involving the Army's chemical weapons stockpile.
"We are extremely pleased to have an experienced person
such as David join the EMA team," said Mike Burney, executive
director of the county EMA. "I think he will provide a positive
and enthusiastic approach to public information and education
related to all aspects of emergency management."
