RICHMOND, Ky. The Army's chemical weapons plant in central Kentucky is trying to fill 40 security guard positions.

And officials at the Blue Grass Army Depot say they'll have to hire even more guards in the next few years as a disposal facility is constructed.

The guard positions are only available to former members of the armed services.

But a spokesman at the depot says many veterans don't realize they have priority in the hiring.

The depot has placed ads in local newspapers to look for vets to fill the jobs.

The facility is a storage site for thousands of tons of Cold War-era chemical weapons.
