ANNISTON, Ala. - The Army says
workers
have begun destroying a stockpile of V-X chemical nerve agents.
Mike Abrams, a spokesman for
the facility,
says disposal operations began last night at the Anniston Chemical
Agent
Disposal Facility.
The V-X chemical agents are
stored in
three types of munitions -- M-55 rockets, 155 millimeter projectiles
and V-X
M-23 land mines. The M-55's are the first to be incinerated.
It's the first active chemical
destruction
campaign since March when the last of more than 142,000-400 G-B-filled
munitions were eliminated.
