ANNISTON, Ala. (AP) -- After a three-week break for retooling, weapons processing has resumed at the Anniston Chemical Agent Disposal Facility.

The facility destroyed 324 eight-inch shells Wednesday, officials said. The shells, filled with sarin, were leftovers from a disposal campaign earlier this year.

The shells had been held back in case the Alabama Department of Environmental Management wanted to do additional testing on the facility's Metal Parts Furnace.

Through Thursday, the facility had destroyed 66,157 weapons and 74,370 gallons of nerve agent, about 16 percent of the original stockpile.
