Mysterious Vials Moved to Pueblo

AP. Ten vials discovered at the Air Force's former Lowry bombing and gunnery range have been moved to Pueblo while experts determine what substance they contain.

The U.S. Army moved the vials, repacked in shockproof containers to the Pueblo Chemical Depot east of Pueblo on Friday, the state health department said Saturday.

The vials were unearthed Wednesday and state health officials think they may contain lewisite, a chemical weapons similar to mustard gas.

Two of the vials are labeled as mustard agent and three others contain crystals but no liquid.

Now a Superfund site, Lowry, In Arapahoe County, was an Air Force bombing range in the 1930s. In 1966, it was turned over to Denver and used as a landfill until 1980.
